Colour base planning

I am in class right now
but the computer does not have the software I need to continue working at this moment.
So, I am using this time to plan and practice/try different base colours for my two different clips I will marge to make over 30 seconds. I am using Photoshop and placing a coloured layer on top of the video file I had already exported.

I cannot export a GIF file from Photoshop due to the size being to large but here is some images of what I am doing.

Pinlight coloured layer, fill 30% opacity 70%.

No Colour
 Yellow Base
 Blue base
I will now take these images and add Silver's base colour and add the different glow over top of them

Pinlight coloured layer, fill 30% opacity 70%.

Full Body
I will now look into how to edit/ experiment/ improve the base colour glow to see if I can make it look more natural

Overlay coloured layer, fill 15% opacity 100%.

Base
Yellow
Blue
With trying these colours, the question came up,
How intense am I going to make these colours?
Am I looking at having the yellow and blue base colours be very obvious or more subtle and not noticeable? I will now find out.

Overlay coloured layer, fill 25% opacity 100%.

Very different on contrast. Much more obvious.
Yellow makes the Background stand out more along with Silver but Silver still standing out with his dark pants and scarf but also his bright purple hat and shoes. Whereas the Blue lets Silver stand out much more than the Background with his skin colour being the only warm colour in this scene. The Yellow highlights Silvers hat and shoes but the Blue highlights his skin.

Softlight coloured layer, fill 25% opacity 100%.

The Yellow and Blues are not as strong with this setting. They are still there but not as bold. The Yellow seems to be merging Silver with the Background when compared to how the Blue brings Silver out from the Background.
Blue looks almost natural whereas Yellow does not.

Now I am going to try different sort of colouring, involving shading and highlights to add more to the colour.

  1. Excellent to see you doing your planning. Check out this for a good summary on all of the elements to manipulate in an illustration. https://nofilmschool.com/2014/07/video-is-most-fun-learn-about-composition?fbclid=IwAR3lRwzapmlpxg9Q5gz8jBrKDaxNaaPmpS9cS5hUdJq3vYAMK4Rad7S84ZE
