They are American filmmakers that direct, write and producers, they are known for being visionary directors, stunning visuals, ambitious themes, nuanced views of gender and sexuality. After dropping out of (separate) universities and wrote comics for Marvel. They credit comic books for giving them an interest in telling multi-part stories. They went into script-writing in the 90s and decided to become directors to avoid having to cut up their work up.

They produced Bound (1996), The Matrix Trilogy (1999-2003), Speed Racer (2008), Cloud Atlas (2012), Jupiter Ascending (2015), Sense8 (2015-17).

Coen Brothers (Joel and Ethan)

American filmmakers that are known for stylish films that combine comedy and drama, eccentric characters, and convoluted plots. Joel usually directs and Ethan usually produces and they share the screenwriting credit. They were also nominated for 14 Academy Awards and have won 4. They cowrote and financed Blood Simple (1984) through private investors and gained a reputation for being idiosyncratic talents. In 1991 they swept best picture, best director, and best actor awards at Cannes, the first such sweep in the event's history for Barton Fink.

They produced Raising Arizona (1987), Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), No Country for Old Men (2007).
